Second Classes - Brazil

The Second Classes have been busy learning about Brazil.

We have learned lots of facts such as:

capital: Brasilia
languages: Portuguese (German, English, Spanish)
climate: tropical (Amazon Rainforest)
animals: capybara, sloth, jaguar, red-eyed tree frog
food: feijoada (Brazilian black bean and beef stew)
tourism: Rio de Janeiro (Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf)
celebrations: carnival (‘el carnaval’)
music: samba and percussion instruments
artist: Romero Britto (pop art)
sport: soccer (Pelé, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Neymar)

We concluded our work on Brazil today with a workshop with a real (!) person from Brazil! Ms. Lynch's friend, Gilmar, joined us on Zoom all the way from sunny São Paulo!

Gilmar told us about his childhood in Brazil and taught us some fun facts Did you know that Ireland would fit into Brazil 121 times and that 'cara' as Gaeilge is also a slang term for friend in Portuguese?! Gilmar also answered our many questions!
