Dear parents/guardians,

We hope that you are all keeping well and beginning to enjoy the longer evenings as we move into spring.

Covid-19

The first half-term of the new year has been a difficult one for management in regard to Covid-19. However, as a school, we are delighted that we managed to keep the school open, despite the high number of Covid cases within the school. We would like to thank all of you for supporting the school in keeping our Covid procedures in place during these difficult times. We understand that Covid is still around us in the school and in the community. However, your support in your adherence to our school’s Covid response plan has greatly mitigated the risk to all. We are truly grateful for your support.

Admissions 2022/2023:

We are currently accepting application forms for enrolment for Junior Infants for the school year 2022/2023. If you or someone you know has a child of school going age, please feel free to collect an enrolment form from the school office or to phone 01 8709242 for information.

Movement Breaks:

We are delighted to inform you that, because of your generous donations via our Voluntary Contribution appeal, we are currently able to invest more money into customising our school corridors, to allow for more focused movement and/or sensory breaks, which will benefit all of our children. Our corridors, when complete, will comprise of:

• A ‘Tactile and Talk’ corridor;
• A ‘Calm Area’ for activities such as yoga;
• A ‘Motor Trail’ (active floor trail);
• A ‘Bounce and Movement’’ area;
• An ‘Aistear’ (play and talk) corner.

Mid-Term Break:

The school will be closed for the mid-term break from Monday 21^st February to Friday 25^th February inclusive. The school will reopen on Monday 28^th February at 8:40am.

St Patrick’s Weekend:

As you may be aware, the government has announced an additional bank holiday for Friday 18^th March 2022. As a result, the school will be closed on this day.

Treats:

In Lusk JNS, we like to celebrate children’s birthdays in school and to make them feel important on their special day. This is very important for creating a sense of belonging and connectedness in school. We would like to remind you, however, that unfortunately we cannot distribute any treats which have been brought in from home to your child’s classmates. We have a number of children with allergies in the school and we cannot be certain all of the time in regard to what ingredients are contained in products brought in from home. Many thanks for your understanding in this matter.

Ethos:

Dates of Note for your calendar:

• 2^nd March is Ash Wednesday. Ashes for the children will be available in school on the day.
• School closed on Thursday 17^th March and Friday 18^th March (see above) for St Patrick’s Day.
• Easter holidays: Monday 11^th April until Friday 22^nd April inclusive
